TIPS TO FOLLOW AFTER A FENDER BENDER EVENT

In this article, the tips to follow after a fender bender event will be explained in detail. Most times after a fender bender event occurs, it may seem like no one is hurt and there is minimal damage to the Vehicles involved, there is always a probability that the vehicle damage or bodily injury can be more severe than it initially appears. Knowing how to deal with this type of accident correctly will help you when you need to file a claim.

Follow these guidelines after the accident;
1. Drive the cars involved to safety: If you’re in traffic, move to the side of the road. Also, when you’re talking with the other driver, stay out of the way of passing cars.
2. Check for Injuries: Make sure you check if anyone is injured. Don’t conclude that just because there’s a little damage to the bumper no one is hurt. It is best to check if someone requires medical attention.
3. Exchange Contact Information: It is essential that drivers involved in an accident where there is damage to a vehicle should exchange contact information with each other. This should include name, address and vehicle registration number. Proof of insurance and a driver’s license must also be shown.

4. Contact Your Insurance Company: Many insurers require that you give a report on any type of accident. Even if the driver is at fault, you should still inform your insurance company of the collision.
However, if someone else is at fault and there is critical damage, it’s crucial to contact that person’s insurance company. His/her liability coverage should pay for repairs.
5. Discuss with an Attorney if Difficulties Emerge: In a situation, where the damage is expensive and the driver’s insurance company at fault doesn’t want to pay, he/she may try to avoid responsibility by placing the fault on you. Complications can also arise if an injury does not show now and it appears later which will lead to more cost for medical attention.

Note that If the other driver involved is not insured, you would have to file a claim with your own insurer under uninsured motorist coverage which is only possible if you did not reject this coverage when you purchased your insurance plan.
